Documentary wildlife photography — observation in the field

Long-form work

Documentary Projects

Documentary work is built on repeated visits and deep observation. Rather than chasing single images, these projects unfold over months or years — following a subject through seasons, behaviours, and change. The result is a body of work that tells a fuller story than any single frame can.

Hirschbornteiche Beaver Project
2015–PresentOngoing

Hirschbornteiche Beaver Project

The Hirschbornteiche project near Bad Soden-Salmünster documents the return and impact of active beavers in small waterways. Through long-term field observation and photography, the project follows how beaver activity changes the landscape — slowing water, creating new habitat, and reshaping the quiet spaces between forest, ponds, and walking paths. A key part of the project is the relationship between wildlife and daily human use. The area is not untouched wilderness. It is a shared landscape where people walk, hike, picnic, and play with their dogs. This project looks at that balance with patience and respect, showing how wildlife can live close to us when given space, awareness, and careful observation.

My approach

Observation without interference

Every documentary project starts with time — time spent learning a location, understanding animal behaviour, and building the patience to wait for the right moment. I never bait, call, or disturb subjects. The work is built on presence, not intervention.
